Quality Engineer

JOB SUMMARY:  The Quality Engineer will provide engineering support for product and process qualification efforts.  In addition to designing and implementing new quality systems, he will be extensively involved with creating quality and capability tests.  Producing statistical models and validating results. The Quality Engineer reports directly to the General Manager.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Produce the highest quality work possible in accordance with and offer suggestions for improving K-zell Metals’ quality program.                                   
  • Work productively and safely by following all company policies and procedures.
  • Help track job and shop cost by accurately entering information as required on the computer and shop records.
  • Evaluate and implement sampling methods and statistical techniques. Responsible for the development of metrics that report the effectiveness of processes, improvement opportunities or performance objectives.
  • Conduct training on quality concepts and tools.
  • Perform duties as a welding inspector in accordance with AWS.
  • Lead/Support Supplier Quality Management Audits
  • Review Tests and assembly documentation. Recommend revisions or modification of systems necessary to maintain or improve quality and /or reliability.
  • Develop quality Control methods for the product or service of the area. Evaluate new quality control methods and techniques for application to current production and future planning and recommend actions.
  • Prepare departments procedures and instructions as required to implement quality control requirements. Participate in Quality System Internal Audits
  • Maintain the calibration system
  • Provide technical support to our inspectors.

 ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Maintain engineering standards notebook.
  • Help document project quality packages.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Understanding of MRP software.
  • Broad knowledge of Business Management system ISO 9001:20098 supporting the internal audit process.
  • Strong technical background and technical problem solving abilities.
  • Ability to maintain consistent attendance.

 EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Science, Math, or equivalent.
  • 3 years experience in Quality required certified ASQ Quality Engineer desirable.
  • Ability to correlate statistical data to process, product and material properties that influence the data.
  • Knowledge of statistical tools, measurement systems analysis is essential.
  • Ability to read drawings/specifications. Must have a working knowledge of measuring equipment and tools.
  • Computer skills in MS Work and excel are essential.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills (speak, read, comprehend, write) in English.
  • Experience with various welding processes.

 PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS:

  • Hearing and speech adequate for telephone and in-person conversations.
  • Eyesight correctable to 20-40 far vision and Snellen English at 12” or equivalent near vision
  • Manual dexterity and mobility sufficient for answering telephones, carrying office documents, operating a computer, climbing stairs and traversing shop area
  • Ability to maneuver on the shop floor and outdoors.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Ability to stay awake and alert for standard 8 ½ hour shift.
  • Must have both short and long-term memory capabilities to learn, master, and retain skills necessary to perform job safely and adequately
  • Ability to reason and make decisions as required by job assignments
  • Ability to sit for extended periods.
  • Must be able to meet all safety requirements for applicable safety polices.

Programmer \ Drafter

JOB SUMMARY:   The Programmer/Drafter will program CNC Lasers, Turret punches, CNC Press Brakes and CNC Tube Benders and draft and detail shop drawings and job travelers for production.  He will Support production and interface with customers when required.  He will ensure timely production of CNC programs and detailed shop drawings for use during production on the shop floor.  The Detailer/Drafter reports to the Engineering Manager.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Produce the highest quality work possible in accordance with and offer suggestions for improving K-zell Metals’ quality program.                                   
  • Work productively and safely by following all company policies and procedures.
  • Help track job and shop cost by accurately entering information as required on the computer and shop records.
  • Create CNC Program Files for Lasers, Press Brakes, Turret Punch and Tube Bender.
  • Produce detail drawings for shop and production use .
  • Create and review job travelers for production.
  • Effectively communication job requirements with customers and with shop employees.
  • Ensure product manufacturability.
  • Create CNC Program files.

 ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • General clerical duties.
  • Prioritize within own work schedule.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 

  • Ability to program laser, turret punch, CNC tube Bender, CNC Press Brake
  • Advanced Geometry and trigonometry math skills in order to define and draw customer requirements.
  • CADD design with Visual CADD, SolidWorks, AutoCAD
  • Sheet metal fabrication processes.
  • Ability to maintain consistent attendance.

 EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Vocational school or equivalent in CADD.
  • Bystronic BySoft programming software a plus.
  • 2 plus years relevant experience in detail drafting with 2D and 3D CADD.  Visual CADD, SolidWorks & Solid Edge a plus.
  • Must be able to communicate (speak, read, comprehend, write) in English.
